Wear away the Autumn Blues with Faith’s Trends and Winter Shoes

As our summer sunshine never really arrived, it is fitting that we would want to inject a bit of colour and vibrancy to our winter wardrobes.

In this exclusive interview with the Design Manager at Faith, Beverley Robinson, she tells us about this season’s trends and a career in Fashion Retail.

Faith: Beverley, what does your job involve?

BR: I oversee all of the design and creative aspects of the company from the products we sell to the look of the shop and the merchandise. I forecast the trends, which will then be used by all the departments at Faith.

Faith: Tell us about the trends that you think are going to be popular this season?

BR: The Elusive Freedom trend will be big as there are lots of earthy, casual colours. This will include Cowboy boots and designs inspired by Cowboys and Indians themes.

The Girly Persuasion trend should also be successful as there will be a lot of bows, frills and silks for an elegant, feminine and seductive look.

Faith: What trend would you really like to see take off?
BR: I would really like to see the public wearing lots of colour! Possibly worn in a Tokyo-style trend. Gwen Steffani’s style is inspired by the trends in Tokyo and I think this is becoming a really big seller.

I would also love Asian dress to become popular as then I would be able to plan a trip to India to gain inspiration.

Beverley has 11 years of experience in Fashion Retail so here are her tips for all aspiring fashionistas out there:

Tip #1 You have to be willing to work hard to get into Fashion and to work your way up. Decide upon the type of companies you would like to work for then set yourself personal projects with these companies in mind. The companies you apply for will be impressed if you show that you have a good understanding of their brand.

Tip #2 Be prepared to work from the bottom up, which may mean that you have to start with unpaid work experience. You could always take a professional course alongside this to show that you have a true passion for products, fashion and footwear and in order to develop your skills.

Tip #3 Develop a thick skin and learn to accept criticism. Imagine you are an actor going to auditions. Try not to take rejection or criticism personally.
